[WR : Gift] camping together
Switchblade was not fond of sleeping exposed. He much preferred sleeping indoors, in a soft, comfy bed, where nothing could attack him in his sleep. Regardless, he had ended up agreeing to go on a camping trip for the weekend with his partner, Kagetsu. He was looking forward to spending time with him, sure, but Switchblade couldn’t help but feel a bit…unsafe, about the prospect of sleeping in a tent in the middle of the woods. While the two walked to their destination, camping gear secured tightly onto their backs, thoughts began to creep into Switchblade’s head. There could be any number of beasts waiting to attack and kill them, whether that was for their prizes or something else entirely…
“Hey, Switch, you alright?” A voice jolted Switchblade out of his thoughts. He turned his head to see Kagetsu looking at him, eyebrows upturned in concern. It seemed his nerves had shown on his face.
Switchblade shook his head as if to dispel the bad thoughts before nodding. “I’m fine.” He grunted. “The stuff’s just heavy, that’s all.”
Kagetsu tilted his head. “I gave you the lighter load, tigerlily.”
“Whatever.” Switchblade let out a huff and rolled his eyes slightly. He couldn’t help but smile a little at the pet name. “I’m just not too fond of camping.”
“Ohhhh, okay.” Kagetsu leaned over and nudged Switchblade with his nose affectionately. “It’s gonna be okay, Switch. I got a roomy tent, and the camping spot I picked isn't frequented by anything more than a few rabbits and foxes. Plus, we’ll have a fire! Nothin’ll hurt us, promise.”
Switchblade couldn’t help but heave a sigh, feeling reassured by Kagetsu’s words. He smiled at his partner. “Thanks, snapdragon.”
Kagetsu nudged Switchblade once more and hummed. It wasn’t long before the two of them reached their destination, a clearing in the middle of the forest on a cliff, set next to a stream for easy access to water. Soon enough, everything was set up–the tent stood strong, and the fire burned bright–and Switchblade felt his nerves settle down almost completely as he spent time with Kagetsu. The two managed to finish setting everything up by sunset, and they sat at the edge of the cliff, watching the sun go down after a long day of preparing for their weekend.
Maybe camping wouldn’t be so bad, after all.
